- Could come to India in 2026
- Will use the same powertrain and platform as the Kia EV9
Hyundai will be jumping onto the three-row electric SUV bandwagon later this year. It’s officially confirmed that the Ioniq Concept Seven will go into production this year with an initial debut in the US market before branching out to the rest of the world.
Showcased in 2021, the silhouette of the Concept Seven is very similar to that of the EV9 concept car and with the same dimensions both inside and out. The production-ready model will be a little more conventional, taking the design cues that Hyundai has for its current crop of SUVs - a mix of a boxy shape with curvy elements.
The Concept Seven is expected to share its powertrain, feature list, and practicality with the EV9 as is the case with most shared products in the Hyundai-Kia universe. Like the EV9, this too will be offered with both six-seat and seven-seat options. However, Hyundai, being the senior brand globally, is expected to have more six-seat variants as compared to the EV9.
The other big news, not official as yet, is that the Concept Seven will be called the Ioniq 9, emphasising its position at the top of the Hyundai line-up. We expect that Hyundai will bring this car to India as a part of its future offerings. Although, this will be done primarily to establish a name for itself rather than generate volumes as this is expected to be a Rs. 90 lakh car and a CBU. This Concept Seven is expected to be a part of Hyundai India’s future line-up and could come here by 2026.
