The Santa Fe has been in the Indian market for a while now and even though it was a pretty good car on its own, the sales just couldn’t pick up and Hyundai has finally discontinued it. The industry experts believe that the recent change in GST cess on SUVs has strongly contributed to the decision. Also the fact that the car was quite expensive with luxury brands like Mercedes and BMW already have offerings in the similar price bracket.
The Santa Fe was much costlier as compared to its rivals -- the Toyota Fortuner, the Ford Endeavour, and the Volkswagen Tiguan. The carmaker sold a total of 45 units in the first four-month (April-July 2017) of this fiscal, where the competition was clocking sales of 2,500 units monthly.
Also, the company reported no production for the same period. Moreover, the company did not share the new price of the Santa Fe after the new cess slab recently announced. Hyundai only has two 5-seater SUV’s in its line-up as of the now, the Creta and the Tucson.
