Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) has announced a 9.7 per cent hike in domestic sales for February 2015. The company sold 37,305 units last month in India, while they had sold 34,005 units in the corresponding period in 2014.
The carmaker's overall sales figures including exports last month was reported as 47,612 units. This also shows a 2.4 per cent growth as Hyundai's cumulative sales in February 2014 were 46,505 units.
However, Hyundai doesn't seem to have had a decent outing in terms of exports with their overall export figures just above the 10k mark. They collectively sold 10,307 vehicles abroad last month, which is 17.5 per cent less than the 12,500 units the manufacturer had exported in the same month last year.
Rakesh Srivastava, Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing, HMIL said, "Hyundai’s volumes of 37,305 units registered a growth of 9.7 per cent over last year on the strength of strong performance of Elite i20 with 10,264 units. The growth in additional and repeat buyers is higher than that of first-time buyers. Reduction in interest rates could bring in the thrust to break the threshold of low growth and initiate the double digit growth.”
Hyundai plans to extend their services to more and more cities in India and aim to open more dealerships this year. With this expansion drive, the manufacturer aims to expand their dealership network eventually effectively catering to the demand of their products. The Korean manufacturer's Elite i20 has tasted a fair bit of success in the Indian market and the new Verna facelift has added to the manufacturer's success. The upcoming new i20 Active, which is a beefier version of the Elite i20 hatchback, will soon be launched.
