Hyundai QXI (Styx) to debut at New York Motor Show

-    The all-new QXI is a sub-four metre in the leagues of Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport and Tata Nexon.

-    Has been spotted in India and international markets already.

-    Will be based on the same platform as the new-gen Grand i10 and allegedly carry Styx moniker. 

Hyundai is prepping an all-new sub-four metre SUV for India as well as international markets. The baby SUV is codenamed the QXI and it has been spotted on many occasions already. Now according to recent reports, Hyundai will debut the global-spec QXI at the 2019 New York Motor Show in April and it will carry the Styx moniker. 

The QXI was first showcased as a Carlino Concept at the 2016 Auto Expo. The Styx – the name might differ in different markets – will be based on the same platform as the new-gen Grand i10 and Xcent. The same platform will also spawn a new compact MPV for India, Korea and Europe, in 2020. Kia is also expected to use the same platform for its version of the baby SUV that will arrive by 2020. The QXI/Styx will be positioned below the highly successful Creta both in India and in international markets. 

The styling of the QXI will be based on Hyundai’s new design language. So it will surely have the new cascading grille up-front which will be flanked by sleek headlights akin to the one seen on the new-gen Santa Fe. The headlamps will be a two-tier headlamp unit with a sleek unit on top with LED DRLs. Being a crossover, there will be body cladding all around the vehicle. The silhouette is expected to resemble a scaled-down Creta, and the rear will have a similar tailgate. The cabin will have a Creta-inspired dashboard with similar instrument cluster and touchscreen infotainment system as seen on the Elite i20. The five-seater will come with all the bells and whistles expected from the segment. 

Powering the Styx will be the same powertrain as the Elite i20. So we expect 1.2-litre petrol and 1.4-litre diesel under the hood. Transmission could be a five- or six-speed manual with the probability of an AMT as well, which debuted in the Santro. The international-spec might get a torque converter as well. 

When it arrives in India perhaps by the second quarter of 2019, the production-ready QXI will be Hyundai’s warrior in the battle against the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport and Tata Nexon and the upcoming Mahindra XUV300. Hyundai is expected to price the QXI/Styx in the range of Rs 7-10 lakhs.
