According to a few recent reports, Korean auto giant Hyundai is developing a new hybrid model. Inevitably, this new vehicle will take on the world’s best-selling hybrid – the Toyota Prius. It will be Hyundai’s first dedicated hybrid offering and not just a variation of an existing petrol model from the brand’s line-up.
“We will take the lead in the future by raising the competitiveness of our environment-friendly cars like hybrid-only cars, plug-in hybrid cars and fuel cell hydrogen cars," Hyundai Motor CEO Kim Choong-ho has been reported saying at the launch of the Aslan premium sedan in South Korea.
The introduction of a new hybrid vehicle will not only allow Hyundai to diversify its eco-friendly vehicle line-up but also help the brand in meeting stricter emission regulations in key markets such as the US and the UK. Besides Hyundai, Ford is also reportedly planning its first fully-fledged hybrid vehicle. Expected to arrive in the next four to five years, it will, too, take on the Toyota Prius.
