Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL), organised the ‘Miles & Smiles Rally 2010’ for its i10 customers yesterday. A total No. of 82 Cars reported for the 77 Kms - Hyundai Miles and Smiles car rally and they participated in a contest held for 1.1 Litre and 1.2 Litre categories.
The ‘Miles & Smiles Rally’ is a special initiative of HMIL to help its customers in different cities to acquaint themselves better with their cars – learn the techniques of fuel efficient driving, calculate the mileage per litre and also win exciting prizes in the process. The rally also aims at raising the awareness about the judicious use of the scarce fossil fuels, by promoting fuel efficient driving habits among customers.
Speaking on the occasion Arvind Saxena, director, Marketing & Sales, HMIL, said, “The ‘Miles and Smiles’ rally is an initiative to engage with our customers and educate them about better car maintenance and the benefits of fuel-efficient driving. Through such efforts, we try to promote the benefits of fuel-efficient driving in the country."
The rally began with a brief presentation on the techniques of fuel efficient driving after which the participants tanked up their cars; the tanks were sealed after the fuelling and no was allowed to refuel during the rally. The odometer readings were noted by the organizers and the trip meter was made ‘zero’.
After the flag off, the participants drove on the pre-determined route which took them towards Gandhi Nagar through NH- 8C. The participants took a U-turn from the Chiloda circle. At the end of the rally the cars were re-filled and the amount of fuel consumed was measured again and the participant who had used the minimum fuel was declared the winner. Prizes included a cash award of Rs 10,000 for the winner, and Rs 6,000 and Rs 4,000 for the first and second runners up respectively in each category of cars.
In 1.1 Litre Category the average mileage was 28.2 and the winners was Surjit Singh Vaghela. In 1.2 Litre Category the average mileage was 29.14 and the winner was Yogesh Bhai, the rally was flagged off from Hotel Cambay Grand and culminated at the same point.
