Hyundai may launch a sedan based on the recently unveiled Grand i10 compact hatchback. The Korean automaker currently has the Verna, Elantra and the Sonata sedans in various segments but has no vehicle in the highly lucrative compact sedan segment that is currently dominated by the Maruti Suzuki Dzire and Honda Amaze.
The closest car to the Dzire and the Amaze from the Korean automaker line up would be the Accent compact sedan, but it does not fit any of the government regulation and more importantly is well past its prime in the Indian market.
The new Grand i10 based compact sedan is expected to be a sub four-metre vehicle. It will mostly be powered by a slightly larger version of the oil burner that will debut in the diesel grand i10 when it is launched next month. We expect that it share many of its components, design and features with the upcoming hatchback.
In February, we had predicted that this was likely to happen once the new i10 was unveiled and launched. Now with the launch of the Grand i10 scheduled for the 3rd of September, we should expect to see the Grand i10 within the next six-eight months. During the same perido we can also expect that Hyundai will launch the new i20 and most probably a facelifted version of the Eon.
