Hyundai may introduce a 1.0-litre Kappa-engined variant for its entry-level Eon hatchback. The car is currently offered with an 800cc engine that produces 55bhp and 75Nm of torque. This engine (the 1.0-litre Kappa) is currently on offer in Europe where it has been tuned to produce 65bhp and 95Nm of torque and currently powers the new i10.
We expect that much like how Maruti Suzuki has priced and positioned the Alto K10, Hyundai will position the 1.0-litre Eon above the standard line up and will offer it in at least 2-3 variants. More importantly it is expected to be priced Rs 20,000 to Rs 25,000 above the price of the standard car and will most likely also get the option of LPG also. It is also possible that Hyundai may introduce the 1.0-litre variant of the Grand i10 as a more budget offering for the Indian market.
The 1.0-litre Hyundai Eon competes with the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10, Maruti Suzuki Estilo, Chevrolet Spark and the Hyundai Santro Xing.
