Hyundai will launch an SUV focussed lineup over the next two years as it sees major potential from the body style for the Indian market. It is looking at a 20 per cent sales share from its line up as compared to 12 per cent last year. It has two SUVs and one hatchback-based crossover and is expected to add two more models over the next two years.
The two SUVs in its current lineup are the Santa Fe which only sells as a diesel and the Creta which is offered with both petrol and diesel engines. This will be expanded to include the Tucson D-segment SUV which is expected to be launched around the festive season and will slot in alongside the Elantra in their lineup. Hyundai also showcased a sub four-metre SUV concept during the 2016 Auto Expo which it dubbed the Carlino. However, this vehicle is at least a year away by company estimates. This means by 2018 it will have a vehicle with an SUV body style in nearly every segment under Rs 40 lakh.
It has also said that it will, depending on the maturity of the Indian market, bring its Genesis luxury brand of vehicles to the country.
