Hyundai has unveiled the new Kona compact crossover SUV globally. It rivals the Nissan Juke and to make sure it competes with the Juke fair and square, Hyundai is already building an all-electric Kona.
The Nissan Juke is a popular EV in developed markets and manages a range of 390km (242 miles) on a single charge. Hyundai claims that Kona EV will be able to manage more distance than the Juke. The Kona spawns off the i20 platform, same as the Elite i20 and the Hyundai Creta in India.
While Hyundai is already planning to bring the Kona to India, we think the compact SUV might be a good replacement for the Hyundai i20 Active in India. It will sit between the Elite i20 and the Creta and will rival the Ford Ecosport or the Honda WR-V. Also, with the EV push gaining steam in India, a 400km range Kona EV at a price near about Rs 15 lakh, would be an ideal proposition by 2020.
