Hyundai India has launched the Kona, with prices starting at Rs 25.30 lakhs (Introductory ex-showroom, all India). The dual-tone option is available for a price of Rs 20,000. The Kona Electric Vehicle (EV) has been brought to the country via the CKD route and will be offered in one top-of-the-line variant and with five colour options. The Kona Electric will be available in 15 dealerships across 11 cities.
The Hyundai Kona EV measures in at 4180mm in length, 1800mm in width and 1570mm in height. Safety features available on the Kona include six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, VSM, HAC, Park Assist, TPMS, all four disc brakes, impact sensing auto door unlock, speed sensing auto door lock, rear defogger, seatbelt reminder for driver and co-passenger and high speed alert.
On the outside, the new Hyundai Kona EV features LED headlamps, LED DRLs, cornering lamps, 17-inch alloy wheels, ORVMs with integrated turn indicators and an integrated rear spoiler. Inside, the model comes equipped with all black interiors, leather seats, leather wrapped steering wheel, electric sunroof, cruise control, 7 inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity and voice recognition.
Luxury features include 10 way power adjustable driver seat with lumbar support, front ventilated and heated seats, tilt and telescopic adjustable steering, 60:40 split rear seats, metal pedals, electric parking brake, push button start-stop, wireless charger, and four drive modes including Eco, Eco+, Sport and comfort.
Powering the Kona EV is a 39.2 KWh battery pack that claims to provide a range of 452 kms (ARAI certified). The Kona can be fully charged with a standard AC charger in 6 hours and 10 minutes, while the 100 kW DC fast charger enables the battery to be charged to 80 per-cent in just 57 minutes. This battery pack produces 136 PS of power and 395 Nm of torque. These figures enable the vehicle to sprint from 0-100 kmph in 9.7 seconds. The regenerative braking technology helps the user charge the battery by using the electric motor to slow down the vehicle.
All Hyundai dealerships retailing the Kona EV will be equipped with a 7.2 kW AC charger exclusively for Kona customers. Hyundai India is currently working with IOCL to provide a fast charging facility at select fuel stations in select cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Chennai. TO begin with, there will be four charging stations at each of the aforementioned locations.The Kona is offered with a standard warranty of 3 years/unlimited kms.
