The Hyundai ix25 D-segment SUV has been spotted undisguised (a.k.a production ready) in China ahead of its official debut at the 2014 Beijing Motor Show in October. The car has a design similar to that of the larger ix35 SUV and will slot in above the Verna.
The vehicle will be made in China under the joint venture between the South Korean automaker and BAIC. The crossover will be underpinned by the Kia Soul’s platform and will mostly be powered by the same 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre petrol engines found in the Soul.
These are the choices of powertrains for the petrol-only Chinese market though, if and when Hyundai decides to market this car worldwide it is also likely to get the 1.6-litre CRDI diesel mill from the Verna/Solaris/Accent. Transmission options include a six-speed manual as well as a six-speed AT. Its measurements are 4.2/1.7/1.6 (LXBXH) with a wheelbase of 2.5-metres.
At present, it is a Chinese-market only car but may become a global model in the face of growing demand for compact SUVs. It was also spotted testing in India recenlty.
