The Hyundai ix25 first made its debut as a concept vehicle at the 2014 Beijing Auto Show. It has been designed using the Korean carmaker’s Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design theme with the intention of the, the concept showed off its muscular new design to the visitors. Now, a completely undisguised production-spec ix25 has been spied on test in China, ahead of the vehicle’s local launch in October this year.
Going by the spy shots, the production spec model retains the concept’s intriguing design elements such as the sweptback headlamps, a hexagon grille, large fog lamp inserts on the bumper and a silver skid plate. At the rear, the vehicle features wraparound tail lamps and a large rear bumper with twin reflectors.
The ix25 will be manufactured in China by the Beijing-Hyundai joint venture. Expected to be powered a 2.0-litre petrol engine, the crossover will take on the popular Ford Ecosport and the upcoming Volkswagen Taigun in China.
Although Hyundai has been reported saying that the ix25 will be sold only in China, the crossover could make it to some of the European markets. Hyundai India, too, could contemplate bringing the ix25 in the Indian market to take on the Ford EcoSport and the Renault Duster.
