Hyundai’s upcoming crossover ix25’s images have been leaked on the web before its unveiling at the Beijing Auto Show 2014. The spy images reveal that the Korean car maker’s compact crossover for the Chinese market gets styling inspired from the ix35 SUV.
The crossover features wrap-around headlights and aggressive lower air dams that accommodate the front fog lamps similar to the ix35. The new grille is part of the company’s new design philosophy that differentiates the front fascia from the ix35 SUV. The styling is aggressive and the vehicle looks like a proper compact SUV.
The vehicle will be made in China under the joint venture between the Korean company and BAIC. The crossover will be underpinned by the next-gen i20’s platform and is likely to be powered by the same 1.2-litre and 1.4-litre petrol engines found in the i20 hatchback. This might be the choice of powertrains for the petrol-only Chinese market. Although, if Hyundai decides to market this car worldwide it may get the 1.4-litre CRDI diesel mill commonly found in Hyundai vehicles.
Currently Hyundai has set its sight on the Chinese car market with this compact SUV. And, there is no news about the vehicle hitting global markets, but it could be a possibility with demand for such vehicles growing by the day worldwide. The vehicle will compete with the Ford EcoSport in the Chinese markets.
