- New flagship electric SUV
- Counterpart to the Kia EV9
The Hyundai Ioniq 9 has been teased for the first time before its official debut later this month. As the name suggests, it is Hyundai’s new flagship electric SUV and should mimic the Kia EV9 in terms of seat layout, powertrains, and feature list. The concept car for the Ioniq 9 was revealed in 2021 as the Concept 7 and we expect the production-ready version to stay close to the former.
The teaser image showcases a large, frameless silhouette made boxy to give the car the proper three-row SUV look. Hyundai has also teased the design of the wheels, and in the silhouette, you can see the vertically stacked tail lamps and flared wheel arches that add to the overall look of the vehicle.
The Ioniq 9 was an expected step given the relative success of the EV9 over the last two years. The announcement had been made earlier this year for the Ioniq 9 and points at a similar strategy that the group uses across the table-Have multiple models in multiple segments for combined volumes.
As announced earlier, the SUV will make its debut in America and most probably also be produced there initially before heading out to the rest of the world. We expect Hyundai to bring the Ioniq 9 to India closer to 2026 as a part of it’s a global tech showcase. This is a similar strategy followed by Kia with the EV9.
