Needless to say, what catches our attention is the fuel-cell technology. This fuel-cell propulsion technology is still being debated but does that mean carmakers will be waiting for the wind to die down? No. Hyundai, has begun its march and has teased the Intrado concept which is equipped with a hydrogen fuel-cell powertrain. The concept car will be exhibited at the Geneva Motor Show next year in March.
The teaser image, which the Korean car maker has released, shows the rear of the concept car giving us an idea of a compact crossover in the making. The Korean carmaker’s Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design is reflected in the sketch of the car. The ‘Intrado’ refers to the underside of an aircraft’s wings and the design hints at its borrowed traits.
The Hyundai Intrado is believed to be powered by an ix35 fuel cell (FC) system. With this futuristic FC system, which already has a range of 369 miles (594km), we can expect more miles to the gallon on account of the production version of the car being more compact and lightweight. This feat can be achieved by the extensive use of high-tech materials.
Hyundai’s European design and development team created the concept car under the supervision of Peter Schreyer. Since Peter had sketched the original Audi TT and also recently developed designs for the other carmaker Kia, we may soon see the concept form of the Hyundai Intrado to evolve into a full-fledged production car in near future. We expect more details on this new concept car at its unveiling.
Peter Schreyer, President and CDO of Hyundai Motor Group, commented, “Hyundai Intrado envisages a motoring future that encapsulates the efficiency and freedom associated with flying. I believe in the power of mobility to deliver emotional as well as physical connections and this car helps us find again the joy of discovery. Intrado shows that future cars can be relevant and exciting.”
