- Offers a claimed driving range of up to 355km
- Will be offered in two battery pack options
Hyundai has taken its electric game forward by unveiling its newest all-electric model, the Inster EV. This SUV is set to become the brand’s smallest and most affordable EV globally. However, it is not a ground-up BEV but is based on its ICE twin, the Casper.
Design-wise, it carries the quirky and youthful look of the Casper with its modern-retro styling. Up front, it features circular LED DRLs surrounding the headlamp cluster, there’s a massive black pill-like design which houses the front camera, headlamps, ADAS sensor, and also the charging port. Above that, the Inster flaunts pixel-themed turn indicators embedded in a black bar spanning across the width.
The side profile is highlighted by chunky wheel arches with four-spoke wheel options of up to 17 inches. Then elements such as pillar-mounted rear door handles, functional roof-rails, and huge windows add an SUV-like character to the mix.
At the rear, the Inster EV gets pixel-themed light bars which extend up to the Hyundai logo in the centre. Furthermore, the rear profile sports an attached roof spoiler with a high-mounted stop lamp, and wheel arches extending up to the protruding bumper which houses the circular taillamps and parking lights.
In terms of dimensions, the Inster measures 3,825mm in length, 1,610mm in width, and 1,575mm in height, and offers a wheelbase of 2,580mm. The boot capacity is rated at 280 litres, which can be further extended to up to 351 litres with sliding rear seats.
As for the colour options, the Inster will be offered in nine exterior paint schemes including, Atlas White, Tomboy Khaki, Bijarim Khaki Matte, Unbleached Ivory, Sienna Orange Metallic, Aero Silver Matte, Dusk Blue Matte, Abyss Black Pearl, and Buttercream Yellow Pearl.
Inside, the dashboard and cabin in general feature a rather utilitarian design with a minimal and modern approach. Coming to the features, the Inster EV is equipped with a large 10.25-inch infotainment screen, 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, auto climate control, wireless charger, and a multi-functional steering wheel with a steering column-mounted drive mode selector lever. Other features include ventilated front seats, 360-degree surround camera, ambient lighting, blind spot monitor, sunroof, and an ADAS suite.
Talking about the powertrain and specifications, the Inster will be offered with two battery packs – a 42kWh and a 49kWh unit. The latter will be reserved for the long-range version. Both versions will be powered by a single motor setup set to produce 95bhp for the standard and 113bhp for the long-range with 147Nm of torque as standard. As for the range, the model is claimed to deliver a maximum driving range of up to 355km on a single charge. The Inster can charge from 10 to 80 per cent in under 30 minutes using a 120kW DC fast charger.
