Korean automaker Hyundai is likely to introduce a new automatic petrol variant in its popular seller the Elite i20. Currently, the stylish hatchback is available only in manual transmission in the petrol and diesel variants. It is likely that the Indian market will get the new 1.4-litre petrol engine in manual and automatic transmission options as sold in the Indonesian market.
The existing model is available in petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol trim is powered by a 1.2-litre Kappa engine which is mated to a five-speed manual transmission to generate 81bhp of power and the diesel version is powered by a 1.4-litre engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission which puts out 87bhp of power. The new 1.4-litre four cylinder engine will generate about 98bhp of power and 133Nm of torque. This will help the automaker fill the gap in this segment and compete strongly against Maruti Suzuki Baleno and the Honda Jazz.
Though much details about the new variant is not known for now, we believe that the i20 petrol automatic will be offered in a higher variant and might get ABS with EBD and dual front airbags as standard. On the design aspect, no major cosmetic upgrades are expected for now. Additional details about the new Elite i20 automatic will be known in the coming days.
