Hyundai is prepping a new body style for its versatile i30 line-up. After the i30 Tourer was unveiled at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, a new Fastback body style has been spotted undergoing testing at Hyundai’s European headquarter. It will be the third addition to the family and slotted between the hatchback and estate in the i30 model line-up in terms of both pricing and interior space.
Under the camouflage, the fastback bears the i30 fascia but has a steadily sloping roofline and a notchback boot lip. The rear overhang of the Fastback is bigger than the hatchback, leading to us to expect better boot space. But the rear headroom would be restricted owing to the raked roofline. This four-door coupe body style will fill the void created by the outgoing three-door.
Engine options for the i30 fastback would be carried forward from its siblings. The petrol options would include a 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine producing 118bhp in the entry level variant. A 1.4-litre T-GDI four-cylinder engine with 138bhp will also be available. Oil burner options would comprise a 1.6-litre unit in different state of tunes producing between 94bhp and 131bhp. Being a premium offering in the line-up, the fastback would be packed with features such as autonomous braking, collision warning, blind spot detection, lane assist along with blind spot detection, and rear cross traffic alert.
Hyundai is expected to reveal the i30 Fastback late this year at any major auto expo and it will go on sale in the European market only next year. Prices are expected to remain on par with the i30 range as it will go up against the likes of Honda Civic, Seat Toledo, Volkswagen Golf and Audi A3.
