Hyundai has put the WRC version of its i20 hatchback on display at the Auto Expo. Purpose built as a rally car, it will be run by the Hyundai Shell World Rally Team in the 2014 World Rally Championship.
Based on the popular hatchback, the rally-spec car is wider by 100mm and has been beefed up with the usual upgrades to help it take on rally stages around the world. Hyundai Motorsport’s 1.6-litre turbocharged engine which produces 300bhp and 400Nm torque sends power to all four wheels via a six-speed sequential gearbox.
Hyundai has made a comeback into the rally scene for the first time since 2003 as the Hyundai Shell World Rally Team. Having failed to finish in the 2014 Monte Carlo Rally, its first outing, the car is currently competing in the Rally of Sweden.
