Hyundai launched the Elite i20 on August 11 and ever since then it is selling like hot cakes. The company has received 40,000 bookings of the vehicle that is the second generation model of the i20.
Marketed as 'The Elite i20', this new model is now the company's premium hatchback. It was designed at Hyundai Motor's Design Centre Europe in Russelsheim, Germany at an investment of Rs 1,050 crore. The new-generation model features the brand's 'Fluidic Sculpture 2.0' design philosophy that lends it a completely new look. The car comes packed with features and with a good overall package to offer, giving its competition a run for their money.
The Elite i20 is available in both- petrol and diesel engine options. While the 83bhp petrol is a four-cylinder 1.2-litre Kappa engine, the 89bhp oil-burner is the 1.4-litre CRDI mill. The petrol motor comes mated to a five-speed manual gearbox, whereas on the other hand, the diesel mill comes paired to a six-speed manual gearbox.
Hyundai expects to increase their sales further with the help of this car and is targeting volumes of 6,000 cars per month. The company sold 7.34 lakh units of the previous generation i20 since its launch in December 2008. Priced between Rs 4.9 lakh and Rs 7.67 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), the new i20 has created quite a sensation in the Indian market. However, with the launch of the facelifted Maruti Suzuki Swift and the upcoming Honda Jazz, it faces serious competition in the times to come.
