The petrol variants of the Hyundai Elite i20 have been selling in higher numbers than their diesel counterparts. Out of the overall sales of the hatchback, which account to 1,00,506 units by end of May 2015, 51,326 units are of petrol and the remaining 49,180 cars are the oil-burners.
The company has tasted a fair bit of success with the Elite i20 hatchback by crossing the one lakh sales milestone in the domestic market. At present the car's sales are averaging more than 10,000 units per month.
B S Seo, MD and CEO, Hyundai Motor India, said, “We are overwhelmed with the customer's response by receiving over unprecedented 1, 00,000 sales for the Elite i20 in 11 months. This reflects the strong customer connect and confidence on Hyundai products."
Looking at the trend in the Indian automobile sector, there was a time when diesel products saw a good demand over petrol cars. But with the deregulation of diesel, now there isn't really a very big difference between petrol and diesel prices. And knowing petrol models are cheaper than the diesel vehicles, Indian consumers seem to be switching back to petrol powered cars.
