A sportier version of the Hyundai (Elite for India) i20 has been unveiled. Dubbed the ‘N Sport’ version, it is the first car from the South Korean automaker’s performance division. Changes are both mechanical as well as cosmetic.
External changes include a sports body kit, 17-inch wheels and a boot-mounted spoiler. Further, it also gets a free-flow CAT-back exhaust, N badges on the side and the rear. Mechanical changes include a stiffer suspension, disc brakes all-around and ABS+EBD.
Engine wise, this car gets a tweaked 1.4-litre four-cylinder petrol mill that now produces 113bhp and 160Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels via a six-speed MT. The cabin does not get any major additions which is not such a bad thing considering that the Hyundai i20 is already quite loaded when it comes to the feature list. The i20 N Sport, at present, is being offered in a single variant which has been priced at 235,500 Rand (Rs 11.71 lakh).
Given that the car and a lot of its components are made in India, we believe that there is scope for an i20 Sport in India. However, don’t expect any performance modifications, hence no ‘N’ in the name. It will be limited to the body kit, wheels and badging.
