Hyundai will launch their new i20 Active crossover for the Indian market on March 17 at an event in Delhi. The manufacturer recently revealed the renderings of the Elite i20 hatchback-based crossover.
Though Hyundai hasn’t given out any official information about the details of the car yet, the vehicle has been spotted on test several times in our country. The crossover still adopts the company's 'Fluidic Sculpture 2.0' design language and has been designed at Hyundai Motor’s Design Centre Europe in Rüsselsheim, Germany. It gets a sportier, sharper and bolder look than the i20 hatchback due to the additional body cladding. The features in the cabin are expected to be the same as the ones in the Elite i20 hatchback sold at present in our country.
The i20 Active will be powered by the same set of engines that currently power the Elite i20 hatchback. This means the petrol variant will employ the four-cylinder 1.2-litre Kappa motor and the diesel- the 1.4-litre CRDI motor. The former churns out 83bhp of power and 113Nm of torque and comes paired to a five-speed manual gearbox. The latter produces 89bhp of power and 219Nm of torque and comes mated to a six-speed manual transmission.
With the debut of this crossover, Hyundai will not only sell the Active i20 in India but will export it to other markets as well. The variant wise pricing will be available at the time of the launch on March 17. We can expect the pricing to be in the range of Rs 6 lakh to Rs 11 lakh. The Active i20 will have an upper hand over the hatchback due to its new design philosophy. It will compete with the Volkswagen Cross Polo, Toyota Etios Cross and Fiat Avventurra when it goes on sale. We hope this new vehicle will enjoy a good demand in the new compact crossover segment in our country.
