Hyundai has launched the i20 Active in Mumbai in the price range of Rs 6.69 lakh to Rs 9.32 lakh. The new crossover is based on the new-gen i20 hatchback and shares its features and engine line-up with the sibling.
Hyundai has given the new i20 Active a more rugged, meatier look and sportier cabin in comparison to the standard i20 hatchback. It is not just the cosmetic changes but the manufacturer has slightly tweaked the rear suspension, given the car bigger alloy wheels and increased ground clearance as well. There is a new skid plate at the i20 Active's front, a new bumper with larger fog lamps and projector headlamps with daytime running lights. There is also a silver skid plate at the back and a new bumper with circular reflectors. The plastic body cladding all around the car, roof spoiler and roof rails give the car a beefier look than the regular i20.
The i20 Active's cabin is different from the standard i20 hatchback interior. The updates in the i20 Active come in the form of two dual-shade interior options - tangerine orange and aqua blue combined with black. Other changes to the interior include new upholstery, aluminium-coated pedals and partly coloured gear-knob.
Hyundai has powered the i20 Active with the same engine options, 1.2-litre Kappa petrol and 1.4-litre CRDi diesel, which power the i20 hatchback. While the 1.2-litre petrol motor churns out 82bhp of power and 114Nm of torque, the diesel mill produces 89bhp of power and 220Nm of torque. The petrol car comes with a five-speed manual while the diesel gets a six-speed manual.
The new hatchback-based crossover competes with the Volkswagen Cross Polo, the Toyota Etios Cross and the Fiat Avventura in the Indian market. With the introduction of this new car, Indian consumers get another option to choose from in the new compact crossover segment in our country.
