Hyundai has updated its hatchback crossover, the i20 Active and the new car prices begin at Rs 6.99 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi. The petrol car is offered in four variants – Base, S, SX and SX dual tone while the diesel doesn’t get the Base trim.
Visually, the 2018 i20 Active is exactly the same as the outgoing car including the silver cuff plate and the round fog lamps on both the front and the rear bumpers. The dual tone paint schemes include blue with white, brown with black and white with black colour options. On the inside, the i20 Active now gets the updated 7-inch touchscreen display, along with new upholstery and body-coloured accents on the seats as well as the dashboard.
Mechanically, it continues to be powered by existing petrol and diesel engine options. The 1.2-litre petrol generates 82bhp and 114Nm of torque while the 1.4-litre diesel engine churns out 89bhp and 220Nm of torque. The petrol gets a five-speed manual while the diesel offers a six-speed manual gearbox.
The i20 Active is a sub-four metre crossover and pits itself against the likes of the Vitara Brezza, the Ford Ecosport, the Honda WR-V and the Tata Nexon. But with its hatchback-like looks, it rather competes with the likes of the Toyota Etios Cross and the premium hatchbacks along with the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross.
At the price of the top-spec i20 Active, you can also opt for sedans like the Honda City, the Hyundai Verna and the new-entrant, the Toyota Yaris. The entry-level trims of the larger SUVs are also accessible in this price bracket. But if you are looking at top-spec cars, go no further than the compact sedans that have evolved from ‘hatchbacks with a boot’ to proper sedans over the past decade.
