The much rumoured Hyundai Grand i10 sedan has finally been spotted testing on the Chennai-Vellore highway (near Hyundai’s factory) by a reader of Indianautoblog. We already know that the prototypes of the C-segment sedan were ready around the time the Grand i10 was launched and it seems that they are undertaking road trials.
The Hyundai Grand i10 sedan as it name suggests is based completely on the i10 hatchback and by the look of these pictures it is a boot-on-hatch job as it seems to share the same roof line as the hatchback. The report suggests this was a base model on test, due to the interiors being rather basic in nature.
The Grand i10 sedan is expected to share many of its components with the hatchback including its 1.2-litre Kappa engine that produces 81bhp and 114Nm of torque. The diesel on the other hand is expected to be the 1.4-litre unit from the i20 that produces 89bhp and 219Nm of torque. The transmission options should get quite interesting- the petrol will get the five-speed manual and four AT while the diesel will be powered by a six-speed manual.
This car, when launched, will bridge the gap between the Verna and the i20 in terms of price and model options. It is expected to be launched sometime next year and will compete with the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Honda Amaze and Tata Indigo eCS.
