Introduction
The Hyundai Grand i10 Nios is the latest entrant to the hatchback segment in India. Rivals to the model include the Ford Figo and the Maruti Suzuki Swift. We have tested the diesel manual variants of all three cars for real-world fuel efficiency. Before we get to the figures, let us tell you how we conduct these tests.
How we conduct the fuel efficiency test
To calculate the real world fuel efficiency of the aforementioned vehicles, we drove the cars on a designated route. This route and the testing process is followed and repeated consistently for every car. Following are the tested city, highway and average fuel efficiency figures for all three models.
City fuel efficiency
In the city, the Maruti Suzuki Swift ran 14.60 kms for each litre of fuel consumed while the Ford Figo sipped one litre for every 14.14 kms run. The Hyundai Grand i10 Nios won this round, covering 16.13 kms for each litre of diesel.
Highway fuel efficiency
On the highway, the Grand i10 Nios won the round again, returning an efficiency of 22.74 kmpl. The Swift and the Figo returned a fuel efficiency of 19.10 kmpl and 19.67 kmpl respectively.
Average fuel efficiency
The average fuel efficiency of all the hatchbacks was measured with a mix of both, city and highway runs. The Grand i10 Nios, Swift and Figo returned an average of 16.59 kmpl, 14.46 kmpl and 14.44 kmpl respectively.
