Hyundai will launch the Grand i10 hatchback for the Indian market at a function in Delhi tomorrow. The car will slot in between the current generation i10 and the more premium i20 hatchback. It is longer (with a larger wheelbase), wider than the i10 and for the first time in its six year history will be offered with a new developed three cylinder 1.1-litre diesel engine. The car was officially unveiled on the 7th of August followed a little later by its first TV commercial.
The Hyundai Grand i10 will be offered with one petrol and diesel engine. While the petrol is the 1.2-litre Kappa unit that produces 83PS and 113Nm of torque, the oil burner is the 1.1-litre engine that produces 71PS and 159Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox across both engine options.
It will be offered in four variants – Era, Magna, Sportz and Asta much like the current car. New features on this car include rear AC vents (Magna and above), cooled glove box, push button start, power outlet for the rear seats and a one GB internal storage for the 2-DIN music system (Sportz and Asta). We have already revealed all these features as well as exteriors thanks to one of our loyal fans who managed to give us a large set of detailed photos.
The latest offering from the Korean automaker will be priced starting close to Rs 4.6 lakh, while the top-end variant diesel variant close to Rs 7 lakh making it a lakh more expensive than the equivalent variant of the current generation i10. When launched the Grand i10 is expected to target the Ford Figo, Maruti Suzuki Swift and the Ritz. We will bring you all the live updates from the launch as they happen, so stay tuned to Carwale.
Edit: Hyundai Grand i10 has been launched at Rs 4.29 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi)
