Hyundai Elite i20, the latest updated version of the i20 hatchback, is due for a launch on August 11 when the company will officially unveil the car as well. We have seen the camouflaged car testing on Indian roads before but now we have the undisguised pictures of the car at a stockyard.
We had received the pictures of the car before when all the changes made were evident and more details emerged. The Hyundai i20 Elite gets a wide but compact air intake with mesh design. The grille gets incorporated into the front bumper with a revised design for the fog lamps. The headlamps get a sweptback design while staying in line with the new fluidic design for the Hyundai cars. Similar is the case with the back of the car, which sports newly designed tail lights.
Hyundai has updated the interiors of the Elite i20 with changes to the instrument panel and steering wheel as well. The round base for the gear-stick now gets a squarish shape with a chrome surround. While the AC vents in the centre are placed transversely, the position of the 2-Din music system has changed as well. Apart from the current grey colour option for the interiors, the company seems to have introduced the beige colour option as well for Indian consumers. All these revisions have been made to keep up with the new competitors in the B+ segment of cars in India.
Hyundai will power the Elite i20 with the same set of engines that presently power the outgoing i20. The current hatchback gets the 1.2-litre petrol (83bhp/113Nm), 1.4-litre petrol (99bhp/136Nm) and the 1.4-litre diesel unit (89bhp/219.7Nm) which is expected to be carried over to the facelifted hatchback. Currently there are three gearbox options which will also be carried over. This means the petrol version will be offered with a five-speed manual/four-speed AT while the diesel trim will get a six-speed manual.
Hyundai was testing the facelifted version of the i20 hatchback in India since a long time. It is on August 11 when the manufacturer will officially launch the vehicle for the Indian market. At present, bookings for the vehicle have already started but model wise pricing will be available only when the car will be launched. The Elite i20 will rival the facelifted Volkswagen Polo, the new Fiat Punto and the upcoming Honda Jazz.
