Hyundai has added another feather in its cap by selling more than one lakh Elite i20 hatchbacks in India. This milestone seems even more commendable when you consider the fact that the Korean manufacturer managed to achieve it within a short span of just 11 months since the hatchback’s launch.
The Elite i20 instantly caught the Indian customers’ fancy since it went on sale in August 2014, and has been continuously trouncing its competition in terms of sales numbers. The car’s European looks coupled with the generously loaded feature push the car high up in the value for money scale, making it regularly feature in the top 10 highest selling cars in the country. In certain cities, the car even has a waiting period stretching from two to three weeks.
Expressing delight over this achievement, Mr B. S. Seo, MD and CEO, Hyundai Motor India Ltd said, “We are overwhelmed with the customer’s response by receiving over unprecedented 1,00,000 sales for the Elite i20 in 11 months. This reflects the strong customer connect and confidence on Hyundai products. We thank customers, channel partner, employees and media who have chosen our product Elite i20 making it as a super performer brand in India and who have contributed to this landmark achievement.”
The Elite i20 is offered with two engine options – a 1.2-litre VTVT Kappa petrol and a 1.4-litre CRDi U2 diesel unit. The diesel engine comes mated to a six-speed transmission, while the petrol unit comes with a five-speed unit. Currently, the Elite i20 competes with Volkswagen Polo and the Fiat Punto Evo, though we can expect the segment to get more competitive in the next few months thanks to the other upcoming premium hatchbacks like the Honda Jazz and Maruti Suzuki YRA.
