The Hyundai Elite i20 will be launched for the Indian market on August 11 and as has been the case for its smaller sibling last year, the variants and feature list have been leaked ahead of the launch. We already know what the car looks like as well as what the interior will be like thanks, once again, to a plethora of spy shots over the course of July.
A report from Gaadi, says that the Elite i20 will be offered in 10 variants (five, petrol and five diesels) Era, Magna, Sportz, Asta and optional variant in either Magna or Sportz. The petrol engine will continue to be the 1.2-litre four-cylinder Kappa mill that produces 83bhp/113Nm while the diesel is the 1.4-litre CRDi mill that produces 89bhp and 219Nm. Gearbox options include the five-speed manual for the petrol and the six-speed manual for the diesel.
While the report suggests that the four-speed AT and consequently the 1.4-litre petrol engine has been dropped from the line up, we believe that, like they did for the Grand i10, Hyundai will launch an AT version of the Elite i20 at a later date.
One of the major revelations is that the Elite i20 will be 10mm shorter than the outgoing model (3,995mm to 3,895mm) but is wider by 24mm and has a wheelbase as well as ground clearance that has been increased by 45mm and 4mm respectively.
On the feature front, the Elite i20 gets everything present in the Grand i10 with the addition of climate control, clutch lock, digital display for driver info, follow me home headlamps, service reminder, impact sensing door unlock, one touch lane change indicators and a smart pedal system which is believed to cut off acceleration if the throttle and brake are pressed together. The interior trim will be a two-tone unit with the black and beige being the main colours. The colour options include polar white, mystic blue, sleek silver, stardust passion red, midas gold and pristine blue.
The Hyundai Elite i20 will have its global debut in India on August 11 and this is expected to be followed by the European debut and launch at the Paris Motor Show in September. It will compete with the Fiat Punto Evo and the new VW Polo. The Honda Jazz too will be a rival once it is launched in March of next year. The Elite i20 is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 5.5 lakh to Rs 8 lakh when it is launched.
