Hyundai has launched the Elantra Sport Edition for the Malaysian market. The new variant is priced at RM 91,928 (Rs 15.50 lakh) and has been given some cosmetic changes to make it look sporty.
The new variant is available in creamy white and phantom black paint scheme. The cosmetic changes include sporty bumpers and skirts with red accents. At the sides of the car gets a funky sticker job with a ‘Limited Edition’ bar code. This bar code will be numbered from 1 to 999, showing the number of the car out of the 1,000 units planned to be sold. At the back, a black rear diffuser with twin tail pipes can be seen.
There are a few changes in the cabin of the Elantra Sport Edition. The interior comes equipped with a 6.2-inch touch screen infotainment system and is Bluetooth as well as DVD enabled. There is also an optional reverse parking camera at an additional cost of RM 300. As this variant is based on the entry level Elegance 1.6L model, it misses out on leather seats and fog lamps. This also means the car will only get 16-inch alloy wheels instead of the 1.8L variant’s 17-inch alloys.
There are no changes on the powertrain front and the car still comes powered by the same engine. The 1.6-litre Gamma petrol mill produces 130bhp of power and 157Nm of torque. This motor comes mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.
Hyundai recently launched the Elantra facelift in the Indian market. It would be interesting to see if the company will launch this Sport edition in India as well as it will provide them with a sporty looking model.
