A few days after Hyundai launched the Grand i10 for Rs 4.29 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) we were one of the first to predict that they would phase out the 1.2-litre Kappa engine variants of the old i10 in favour of the Grand i10. We spoke to a dealer who confirmed that they have stopped taking bookings for the Kappa engined variants of the old i10 and this includes the Automatic variant. However, it must be noted that the engine and the automatic gearbox option are still listed on the Korean automaker’s official Indian website as well as the brochure of the last generation i10.
The dealer also informed that company would finish its stock of already produced cars before discontinuing it completely. This means that as the festival season gets closer, we can expect that Hyundai dealers will start offering hefty discounts and good offers to clear stock and increase volumes.
Now that Europe has got the new i10 too, it will now be produced for very few markets making it uneconomical for Hyundai to continue with the car. We also compared prices of the i10 Kappa engined variants and found that the price differences between the two are quite minimal with the Asta variants costing exactly the same. It is likely that when Hyundai drops the i10 Kappa variants, they will reduce the price of the Grand i10 also.
