Hyundai has launched the Creta Compact SUV for the Indian market for an introductory price of Rs 8.59 lakh. There are currently 10 variants and two transmission options. The six-speed manual is common across all three engines but the AT option is only being offered with the 1.6-litre diesel.
It has attributed this move purely to customer demand. Further, when the variants were revealed, it was found that the company had also not introduced a top-spec SX (o) diesel AT. It has attributed the former to the fact that with all the feature options and an AT, the price of the vehicle would surely go above a competitive level.
In terms of customer demand, he revealed that Hyundai is facing a 75 per cent diesel engine and 25 per cent petrol engine ratio. Given the minimal difference in fuel prices this is no longer a surprising development. The Creta’s Chinese counterpart, the ix25, is offered with AWD as well as higher feature list in the lower-spec variants. Hyundai says it has the capability to offer both, provided there is customer demand.
Finally, while its global naming convention has moved from full words to alphanumeric, the Indian cars have got bolder and bigger names which has been attributed to the mentality and thought process that the Indian consumer has with regard to accepting vehicle names.
