Hyundai will launch the facelifted Verna on February 18 and the bookings for the new vehicle have already started. Dealerships are accepting bookings for an amount from Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000.
The facelifted Verna is currently sold as the Solaris in other markets and is the same one exhibited at the Beijing Auto Show in China last year. The new model gets revisions in the form of new headlamps that are bigger than the ones on the Verna presently sold. The fog lamps are new and there are tweaks to the front bumper and bonnet as well. Though the silhouette of the car is the same, the new Verna gets diamond-cut alloy wheels unlike the ones on the present Verna. The changes at the back, though not many, include two new big reflectors on the rear bumper.
This facelifted model will be powered by the same petrol and diesel engine options. There are two petrol variants, one that comes powered by a 105bhp 1.4-litre engine and the other a 121bhp 1.6-litre mill. Both these come paired to a five-speed manual gearbox. The diesel models also include two options - the 1.4- and 1.6-litre mills that produce 89bhp and 126bhp of power respectively and come mated to a six-speed manual.
The revised Verna will compete with the new Honda City and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz that snatched the best-seller title from the C-segment car. Prices of the car will be announced on February 18 when Hyundai will launch the car officially in India. We expect the prices of the new model to be in between Rs 7.5 lakh to Rs 12 lakh. At this price point, the sedan will not just rival the City and Ciaz, but also go up against the Nissan Sunny, Skoda Rapid, Renault Scala and the Volkswagen Vento.
