Hyundai has beaten all to become the first automaker to launch Android Auto on production vehicles. The Korean brand has revealed that the smartphone based intuitive interface will debut on the 2015 Sonata with navigation facility, and will later become available on other Hyundai USA models.
Android Auto not only brings new technology to the table, but also improves safety. According to Hyundai, at any given daylight moment across America, approximately 660,000 drivers use cell phones or manipulate electronic devices while driving, a number that has held steady since 2010.
Android Auto alerts the driver by integrating the driving-related functions of the user’s smartphone with the centralised screen, physical controls and microphone of their car. Furthermore, the smartphone’s screen becomes “locked,” so drivers are not tempted to look down and interact with their phones directly while Android Auto is in use.
Driving and using cell phones is a regular practice here in the India market as well. So it would be noble of Hyundai India to introduce Android Auto for its range of models. Until then, we would advise our readers to refrain themselves from using cell phones while behind the wheel.
