Hyundai has announced that they will launch a compact car (codenamed the BA) that will be positioned between the i10 and the i20. The company has also confirmed that they will introduce a compact SUV to have a presence in one of the fastest growing vehicle segments globally.
According to the Economic Times, the new car will be powered by the 1.2-litre petrol engine and a 1.1-litre diesel engine that is currently under development and will most likely make its debut with the next generation i10. The car will sit between the i10 and the i20 rather than the replace the i10 as had been suggested previously.
The BA will obviously have the South Korean Automakers fluidic design philosophy and is likely to make a debut around October of this year. The report says the car is currently under development at Hyundai’s facilities in South Korea and has had a major amount Indian influence in the research process.
The compact SUV will be Hyundai’s first foray into one of the fastest growing segments globally as well as in India. The company has said that it is currently studying the feasibility of such a vehicle but refused to give any more details. It is likely that the compact SUV might be based on the i20 hatchback as the i10 is already expected to spawn a compact sedan with the next year or so.
