The Hyundai Eon is now available in a 1.0-litre engine option apart from the outgoing 0.8-litre version. The car is priced at Rs 3.83 lakh (ex-showroom, New-Delhi) and will be available only in the Magna+ variant.
The Hyundai Eon was only available with an 800cc engine option which produces 55bhp of power and 75Nm of torque. Now, Hyundai has powered the hatchback with the three-cylinder 1.0-litre Kappa mill from the i10. This new variant of the Eon has a power output of 69bhp and 95Nm of torque. The Euro 5 compliant engine comes mated to a five-speed manual gearbox and is equipped with the latest Dual VTVT technology. The company claims that the car has an ARAI certified fuel economy of 20.3kmpl.
Since the Eon 1.0 is only available in the mid-spec Magna variant, apart from the music system, all the other features will be offered as standard. This list includes front air-conditioning, power steering, power windows, engine immobiliser, keyless entry and full wheel caps for the tyres.
B S Seo, Managing Director and CEO, HMIL said, “Hyundai Eon has been a trendsetter of style, performance, design and finesse in its segment and has received good acceptability and appreciation from its customers. Hyundai consistently innovates to meet and exceed the demands of the customer and the 1.0-litre Kappa engine now offered in Eon is an extension of our modern-premium brand philosophy and will delight our customers with unparalleled driving experience and further consolidate Hyundai’s position in the domestic market.”
The new 1.0-litre Hyundai Eon variant rivals the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10, Datsun GO, Chevrolet Spark and the Hyundai Santro Xing. With the addition of this new engine, Hyundai is hoping for better sales for the Eon. The car, though a decent product, was suffering because of the low capacity engine but with the 1.0-litre the Eon will be a decent buy. Moreover, Hyundai does not have many small capacity engines, so its only other option was to upgrade the Eon with this engine.
