The Honda Vezel has got everyone excited ever since the Japanese automaker unveiled it at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show. A compact SUV based on the 2014 Jazz/Fit, it is the second car to embody Honda’s ‘Exciting H Design’ and will give them entry into the all-important compact crossover segment. However, it does not seem to end there and now Honda is expected to launch a Mugen variant of the Vezel whose first images have appeared on the interweb courtesy a few brochure scans.
The Mugen-spec Vezel gets an aero body kit, different Honda grille, lowered stance and what appears to be 20-inch BBS alloy wheels. The rear end also gets a special bumper and a rear spoiler that has been fitted to the top of the hatch door.
We expect that the 1.5-litre petrol engine in this car will be tuned for more power, a character defining trait of performance Hondas. However, in between the Japanese text is the word 4WD and that means the Vezel too will be offered with a four-wheel-drive option.
It is likely that Honda will bring the Vezel to the Indian market by the end of next year and is likely to call it the CR-U. It will be offered with petrol and diesel engines but will only get the front-wheel-drive option for the Indian market. And the Mugen variant? We are still a long way off from performance Hondas so it will be quite a while before we see this vehicle.
