Patent images of the production version of the Honda Urban SUV have been leaked ahead of its official debut at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show slated to begin at the end of November. The compact urban SUV debuted at the beginning of this year (2013 Detroit Auto Show) and is based on the same platform as the new Jazz/Fit.
The production model does not stray very far from the concept car and retains many of its design cues that we saw in the concept car including the multi LED lights which are now believed to be an optional extra on the 2014 Jazz/Fit. It is also the third vehicle from the Japanese automaker to embody its new ‘Exciting H Design!!!’ philosophy. The compact SUV gets a sloping roofline and very CR-V like characteristics on the side with the exception of the brake lights which now gets a new design.
The Urban SUV will be offered with a variety of engines including the 1.5-litre i-VTEC, 1.8-litre i-VTEC and the 1.6-litre i-DTEC diesel mill. While five and six-speed manuals are expected to be standard, the former will is also expected to get the five-speed AT box.
Now, the important question- when do we see it in India? We believe that Honda will launch the car in the middle of next year a few months after the 2014 Jazz makes its debut. When launched it is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 8 lakh to Rs 12 lakh and will compete with the Renault Duster, Ford EcoSport, Nissan Terrano and the Mahindra Quanto.
