Honda has unveiled the very first set of images of what is basically a renamed Vezel for the US market. Called the HR-V, this new model will make its debut at the upcoming New York Auto Show. Designed and developed using the same global compact platform that underpins the Fit (Jazz), the HR-V will feature a cleverly designed interior thanks to a center tank layout.
The HR-V will serve as an entry-level model to Honda’s crossover lineup, positioned below the CR-V in both price and size. Like the Jazz, the HR-V will feature Honda’s Magic Seat which allows for multiple seating configurations. It also allows the second row of the seat to fold down flat for added boot space. Like the Vezel, the HR-V is expected to source its power from a 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine producing 116bhp and 146Nm of torque.
Without revealing much about the new HR-V, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Honda automobile division for American Honda, Jeff Conrad comments, “Both Fit and HR-V demonstrate how great things can come in small packages, and no one does this better than Honda. Together these models also represent Honda's step-by-step expansion of our production in the region, which has been the key to our success in America for more than 30 years."
