Barely a day after Toyota marked the arrival of its Mirai fuel cell sedan; Honda, too, has introduced a new fuel cell vehicle for the masses. Although a concept for now, this new show car will pave way for the FCV production model that is scheduled to go on sale in Japan by the end of March 2016 and subsequently in the US and Europe.
The FCV acts as a successor to Honda’s famous FCX Clarity family car. The brand says it has made considerable efforts in improving the FCV’s performance and reducing running costs over the FCX Clarity.
The new fuel cell stack installed to this concept car is 33 per cent smaller than the one found in the FCX Clarity and yet, the overall performance is claimed to have improved by 60 per cent.
The FCV concept is equipped with a 70 MPa high-pressure hydrogen storage tank that provides a cruising range of more than 700km. Like in the Toyota Mirai, refuelling process is as quick and easy as the existing petrol and diesel vehicles.
