Globally popular automaker Honda has revealed its plans to showcase its new seven-seat SUV at the upcoming Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS). Designed at Honda’s research facility in Thailand, the new SUV will also cater to Asian markets. It is likely that the company might introduce a compact SUV owing to the segment’s growing popularity and demand in the market.
For now, Honda has not revealed the technical specifications for the upcoming vehicle yet, however reports indicate that the new SUV will come with higher ground clearance, have a rugged design and also feature a sporty alloy wheel design. The vehicle is also expected to be loaded with all modern safety features. Moreover, the SUV with a three seat arrangement will have a spacious cabin area.
To begin with, Honda will be introducing the new SUV only in the Philippine market first. India being a major market for the automaker, it is likely that the company might introduce the new model here at a later date. If launched, it might emerge as a strong competitor against the Ford EcoSport and Maruti Suzuki’s Vitara Brezza. Currently, Honda sells the BR-V in India which is powered by a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder i-VTEC petrol engine which generates 118bhp of power and 145Nm of torque, while the diesel trim is powered by a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder engine which generates 100bhp of power and 200Nm of torque.
More details about the upcoming SUV from Honda will be known post the upcoming event. The recently launched Honda BR-V started off with a good start when launched, but in the following months its sales have witnessed a slightly downward trend owing to stiff competition from the Hyundai Creta. The price and other technical details will be known at a later date.
