Honda has announced that it will begin production of the HR-V compact crossover in Indonesia next year. The Indonesian market will first see the HR-V at the Indonesia International Motor Show in September and will begin bookings for the vehicle at the same time.
Launched in 2013 as the Vezel in Japan, the Jazz-based crossover has been a major success for the Big H in the JDM. It had recently announced prices for the American market and will launch it by the end of the year where it hopes to replicate the success that the vehicle has achieved in Japan.
The Indonesia spec car will be offered with the 1.5-litre and 1.8-litre i-VTEC petrol engines while the gearbox options are expected to include a five-speed manual as well as a CVT gearbox. Honda also debuted a new 1.5-litre petrol engine-hybrid powertrain mated to a seven DCT for the Japanese market in the Vezel and this is likely to make its way to the Asian nation at a later date.
The HR-V is expected to make its way to all the major Asian markets, sans India, over the course of this year and early 2015. Honda Cars India has already confirmed that the Vezel currently has no place in its Indian line up due to a host of reasons. However, given the pace at which technology grows, it is safe to assume that the Vezel/HR-V will be brought to the Indian market at least in its second generation.
