If you’re done crying about Honda stopping all development of the NSX replacement, here’s something that will get your waterworks going again: the S2000’s demise is imminent.
Honda’s cutting costs to keep itself abreast of the times, and it has cancelled development of the convertible CR-Z, which was going to be the S2000’s spiritual successor. The convertible and sports car markets have been shrinking as well, so the much-loved S2000 will meet its maker, so to speak, when production ceases at the end of this year. Other projects that will be aborted are a V8 engine, a rear-drive range of vehicles for the Acura brand, and a single global model for the Accord, unlike the current Accord, which has two different models for America and Europe. India gets the US-spec model, so we can expect something substantially different when the new model arrives on our shores.
Meanwhile, if you’re a Honda fan and would like a convertible, now might be the right time to get yourself one.
