The Brio platform is one of Honda’s major developments for the Asian markets. The platform currently underpins a hatchback; the Brio, a sedan; the Amaze and a third design that will be an MPV that is currently being developed by PT Honda Prosect (Indonesian subsidiary). Going by the success of the Amaze and the Brio, It now seems that the vehicle is now more important to Honda than we imagined as they are believed to have sent in some of their technical experts from Japan to Indonesia to speed up development of the vehicle.
It is believed that Honda has now appointed Masanori Hashimoto, of the major forces behind the Earth Dreams technology, as the head of R&D for PT Honda Prospect. Jonfis Fandy, director of marketing and after sales service at Honda Prospect Motors (Indonesian subsidiary) in February had said that they would debut an MPV along with another vehicle during the 2013 Indonesian Moptor Show but did not provide any further details.
It is almost certain that this MPV will make its way to the Indian market within a few months of its global debut. It is expected to get the 1.2-litre petrol engine as well as the 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel mill which will make its Indian debut in the Amaze sedan next month. We expect that much like the Amaze it will share various components and features with the hatchback.
