Honda sales up in March, WR-V starts off well

Honda Cars India seems to have regained their foothold in the Indian car market by registering sales of 18,950 units in the supposedly slow month of March. While sales are up by 8.7 percent as against March 2016, more importantly, Honda has sold about 4,500 units more compared to February this year.

The spike in sales numbers over the last month can be largely contributed to Honda’s new compact SUV, the WR-V. Honda claims to have sold over 3,500 units of the WR-V, robust numbers to start with for the sub-four metre crossover SUV which is being sold only in the higher-spec trims. Honda will be counting on the WR-V to go past 5,000 units a month and take Honda past 20,000 units a month in order to stake its claim on the third spot on the Indian carmaker’s sales charts.

On the other hand, the updated Honda City is performing strongly with 6,271 units being sold in March. Honda had introduced the Honda City facelift in January with more equipment and a slightly higher price tag. Honda Jazz has been performing consistently, ringing in close to 3,500 units every month. It is certainly a good number, but when compared to the almost 10,000 units of the Elite i20 and the Maruti Baleno, it doesn’t seem to be selling as well.

Sales curves of Honda’s twins, Brio and Amaze, are running flat at around 500 units and 3,300 units each every month. While the Mobilio has reached the end of the road, the BR-V has managed to sell over 1,500 units in March.
