As McLaren and Honda have joined hands for the 2015 Formula 1 World Championship after 22 long years, the Japanese automaker has revealed its powerhouse which is currently in development. During the recent Japanese Grand Prix, Honda offered a preview of this new turbocharged engine in the form of a film including the sound of the engine revving.
Honda hasn’t revealed much in terms of power output for the 1.6-litre, turbo V6 engine. What is known though is that it will be complemented with two electric motors, one for the KERS recovery system, the other for the turbocharger. We expect the power output to be in line with most other competitors on the grid.
The development of this new engine is entering its prime development phase at Honda’s R&D facility in Tochigi, Japan. The brand is all set for the forthcoming F1 participation in around six months’ time. Interestingly, Honda has been making quite a bit of noise in the performance arena, what with the much-awaited debut of the all-new generation NSX sportscar and the hot new Civic Type-R hatch.
