Honda has recalled 489,000 units of the CR-V over a potential fire threat detected on the driver’s side door. The Japanese automaker has discovered that rain water could enter through the driver’s side window and come in contact with the power window switches. This would cause them to overheat, melt and ultimately catch fire.
The company in a statement said that there have been four such incidents but no injuries or accidents had happened so far. Honda will recall 220,000 CR-Vs sold in Europe, 268,000 models sold in the United States and around 100 units of the compact SUV in Africa. Honda has said that all recalled CR-Vs are from the model years 2002 to 2006. However, the company has not given a total cost for the recall.
We are currently unsure if the CR-Vs sold in India have been affected by the same problem, but will update you as soon as we get more information. This is the second time Honda has recalled a model for this problem. In September last year, Honda India recalled 72,115 units of the second generation City (manufactured between 2005 and 2007) as a part of a global exercise for defective power window switches.
